In our modern age, many things are automated and ‘computer controlled’. Press a button and something happens.
Engraving is VERY different. Virtually nothing is automated. Engraving is very ‘hands on’. And requires constant attention to produce high quality results.
Engraving requires a very special set of skills. Skills that are hard to find nowadays. Skills that require many years of apprenticeship to master. It takes a very special kind of person to work with engraving.
It also requires very specialized equipment. Equipment that hasn’t even been made in a very long time. In fact, one of our presses, just recently had its 100th birthday!
And something many people don’t think of, is that we also have to maintain these classic presses. And when they occasionally ‘break’ . . . we have to have custom parts made . . . as replacement parts are ‘long gone’.
Below you will see some of the basic steps as we take a project from the initial die set-up, to the final piece.
As you have seen, the final result if the product of many steps. Each which is very ‘hands on’ and requires constant attention.
